The Western Illinois University Board of Trustees voted unanimously today (Dec. 6) to appoint Kristi Mindrup as the University’s 13th president, effective immediately, making her the first female president in Western’s history. The Board will approve Mindrup’s salary and contract at its March meeting.

Western Illinois University alumnus Matthew Montgomery, of Chatham, has been named the recipient of the prestigious 2024 Illinois Certified Crop Adviser (CCA) Award, the highest honor bestowed by the Illinois Farm Bureau and the Certified Crop Adviser Board. This award recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional service and innovation in nutrient management, soil and water management, integrated pest management and crop production while fostering economically and environmentally sustainable farming practices.

A Partnership for Excellence in Law Enforcement Education

Western Illinois University and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) share a strong, ongoing partnership that enhances the academic and professional journeys of WIU students in the field of law enforcement. This collaboration provides students with direct pathways to careers within federal agencies and enables the exchange of expertise and resources between WIU’s renowned School of Law Enforcement and Justice Administration (LEJA) and the ATF, which protects the public from crimes involving firearms, explosives, arson, regulates lawful commerce in firearms and explosives and provides worldwide support to law enforcement, public safety and industry partners.
