Cybersecurity Center Hosting Two Virtual Presentations on Protecting Information
September 29, 2025

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL - - October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month at Western Illinois University and next week the WIU Cybersecurity Center will host two virtual lectures focused on learning how to protect against online threats. Both presentations will be available via Zoom and open to the public.
From 4-4:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 6, Associate Professor and Interim Director of WIU Cybersecurity Center, Tahir Khan, will present "Protecting Your Personal Information Online." The presentation will offer advice on how to identify and protect yourself if your credit cards or passwords are exposed through a data breach or on the dark web.
From noon-12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8, Khan will host "Overview of Authentication Methods." The presentation will provide an overview of authentication methods, including both password-based and passwordless options, used to verify your identity when accessing online accounts. It will also discuss the most effective authentication methods to use while traveling abroad—particularly in situations where you may not be able to receive text messages or phone calls to validate your identity.
