Phi Beta Delta at WIU Inducts Eight New Members

MACOMB, IL - The Eta Epsilon Chapter of Phi Beta Delta inducted eight new members during its sixteenth ceremony on Wednesday, April 23 in Knoblauch Hall.

Western Illinois University President Kristi Mindrup assisted in awarding membership certificates and in reading the membership induction statement to the new members. In addition to the induction ceremony, WIU graduate student Mirza Jahan from Bangladesh presented a program on the history and culture of Bangladesh.

This year's inductees are international graduate students Hawa Ibrahim (Ghana), Minh Kha Tran (Vietnam), Enyonam Adjoa Neku (Ghana), Aminat Kareem (Nigeria), Md Touhidan Nur Shimul (Bangladesh) and new United States members Marti Dallmeyer, Jim Dallmeyer and Charlene Callison (USA).

The purpose of the Eta Epsilon chapter is to recognize and encourage high professional, intellectual, academic and personal achievements in the field of international education. Applications are accepted year-round and an induction ceremony is held each spring.

Phi Beta Delta, founded at California State University, Long Beach in 1986, was established as an organization in 1987, with 38 chartered chapters, many of which had previously existed for a considerable time at the local level. It is the first honor society dedicated to recognizing scholarly achievement in international education. There are currently over 200 chapters worldwide and WIU's Eta Epsilon chapter was founded in 2009. The WIU chapter hosts Culture Nights for new international students and awards two scholarships each year, among other activities.
