WIU Community Music School Celebrates Record-Breaking Student Recitals and String Ensemble Concert
April 25, 2025

MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Community Music School (CMS) proudly celebrated a milestone this past Saturday with its largest-ever Student Recitals and String Ensemble Concert. The concert was held on Saturday, April 19 at the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall and featured over 50 student performers across two programs, representing a wide range of ages and experience levels.
The afternoon began with a performance by the CMS String Ensemble, directed by Karen Martin and graduate assistant Renee Fortino. The ensemble set the tone for the day, showcasing the power of collaboration and the joy of making music together.
"The energy and talent we witnessed this weekend were truly inspiring," Jena Gardner, director of the WIU CMS, said. "This event was a powerful reflection of our motto, ‘Connecting our Community Through Music Learning.' It's a privilege to witness the progress of each student and the support from families and teachers that makes this growth possible."
As the spring semester comes to a close, the WIU CMS is now enrolling students for its 2025 Summer Music Camps. These half-day and full-day programs are open to young musicians ages 5–18, with opportunities for beginners through advanced players. Students will explore instruments, develop their skills and build lasting musical friendships in a fun and supportive environment.
Families who register by Thursday, May 1 will receive a 20% Early Registration Scholarship by using the code "EARLY20" in the registration portal.
