Hartnett Named February 2025 AOM

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL - - The Western Illinois University Awards & Recognition Committee proudly announces Niall Hartnett, academic advisor in the Department of Psychology, as WIU Advisor of the Month for February 2025.
Hartnett, who has been an academic advisor at WIU since 2008, received six nominations from his advisees, all Psychology majors, highlighting his dedication, responsiveness and positive impact. His students consistently praise his quick problem-solving, encouraging approach and ability to make advising a supportive and empowering experience.
One student shared how Hartnett provided thorough guidance when they needed to change their minor at the last minute, ensuring they explored all available options. Another student emphasized his ability to relate to students and go the extra mile to help them succeed, noting that he also brings a great sense of humor to his role.
"Niall embodies WIU's mission of empowering students," one nomination said. "He provides the knowledge, support and confidence needed to make informed academic decisions. His dedication to student success contributes to the University's positive image and his impact is undeniable."
Another student credited Hartnett as a catalyst for their academic and professional career, stating that his hand-selected class recommendations and guidance helped them gain acceptance into their top-choice graduate program. Others highlighted his supportive nature during difficult academic decisions, including one student who had to delay graduation and appreciated his reassurance and understanding.
Hartnett's commitment extends beyond course planning—he has also assisted students with graduate school applications, essay feedback and long-term career planning, always providing constructive encouragement and respect.
