WIU NOYCE Program Celebrates New Scholars
March 4, 2025

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – The NOYCE Project at Western Illinois University hosted a Signing Day celebration for its new and current NOYCE Scholars on March 1 in Horrabin Hall.
This semester, Arnie Grunert, a Physics major and Jillian Niedziela, a Biology major, joined the program, bringing the total number of WIU NOYCE Scholars to nine. The scholars are STEM majors committed to teaching math or science in high-needs school districts after graduation.
The prestigious NOYCE Scholarship provides a full-ride to WIU, covering tuition, fees, housing and books. Scholars also gain access to professional conferences and workshops focused on STEM education. New scholars are selected each term and more information about the program is available on the NOYCE webpage.
"March 1 marks the beginning of our third year of a NOYCE program here at WIU. We celebrated this occasion by adding two new scholars, Arnie and Jillian, to our NOYCE family and by providing an enlightening STEM workshop for our scholars and area teachers. Our NOYCE team is committed to producing more STEM scholars and more STEM teachers for our Illinois schools and we are excited about the next three years of our NSF-funded NOYCE program," WIU NOYCE advisor and Mathematics Professor Robert Mann said.
