February 26, 2025

MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University recently connected with Macomb High School students for multiple engagement opportunities, providing insight into academic programs, campus life and student wellness initiatives.
"We love to see our local students on campus, envisioning themselves as Leathernecks as they learn more about our excellent academic opportunities and engaging student life," Megan Farmer, associate director of Recruitment and Outreach said.
On Feb. 11, WIU hosted the Macomb Youth Leadership Organization (MYLO) for a day of exploration and hands-on learning. The students toured the Law Enforcement and Justice Administration Crime Lab with Professor Todd Lough, attended a presentation and campus tour led by WIU Admissions and enjoyed lunch in the University Union and a visit to the bookstore with the University Housing and Dining, and Student Life Director, Jessica Butcher. The visit also included a tour of the Multicultural Center and an opportunity to explore the Broadcasting and Journalism department. Throughout the day, students engaged with faculty, staff and current students, gaining valuable exposure to potential academic and career paths.
On Feb. 14, WIU participated in Macomb Senior High Wellness Day, an event focused on promoting student well-being. Several WIU offices, including the Counseling Center, Scholarship Office, Career Center, Law Enforcement, and Justice Administration (LEJA) and Military Science (ROTC), Nutrition & Dietetics, Health and Wellness Services, took part, including Admissions, which was represented by Daytona Dooley and graduate assistants Ashley Bowles and Destinee Jaquez. Their session featured a hands-on activity designed to engage students in an interactive and meaningful way.
"Our activity focused on the benefit of getting involved in student organizations and creating a community. As WIU alumni, we enjoyed sharing the wonderful opportunities we had at Western," Daytona Dooley, WIU Admissions counselor said.
