Just Hired! Through the experiences of local, regional, national and international students, Western Illinois University has some incredible alumni who are changing the world in the workforce. This series will feature students from all over the world who are hired post-graduation.

MACOMB, IL - - Meet Andrew Kosinski, a Western Illinois University Law Enforcement and Justice Administration (LEJA) student, who has been hired by the WIU Office of Public Safety (OPS).

"I'm currently the newest hire for OPS to pass all requirements and am now working full-time," Kosinski said.

The process of landing this position was extensive and demanding.

"The process was a power test, written exam, the first round of interviews with local individuals, the second round of interviews with department officials, several in-depth psych exams, 16-week police academy and all summer on Field Training with the department," Kosinski said.

Kosinski leaned on everything he learned at WIU, specifically the essential communication skills required in his career.

"I learned how to communicate ideas in a LEJA role. There's a lot of terminology and information for even the smallest things. Learning to communicate complex concepts and ideas is very important for this job," Kosinski said.

As part of the WIU community, Kosinski continues to share respect and kindness.

"I love giving back to my school. I always treat those I interact with with respect and kindness," Kosinski said. "I'm constantly walking through dorms and dining halls just saying hello to everyone!"
