MACOMB/MOLINE, IL - - The Western Illinois University School of Communication & Media will host the annual Wayne Thompson Lecture on Monday, March 24, featuring University of Illinois professor Brian Quick. The event, titled "A Research Program Designed to Save Lives, One Donor at a Time," will occur from 3:45-5 p.m. in the Capitol Room of the WIU University Union.

Quick's lecture will explore various organ donation initiatives designed to encourage registration for organ, eye and tissue donations. His research is rooted in persuasion theories and utilizes a range of strategies involving message delivery, messenger credibility and communication mediums. The discussion will also highlight the measurable impact of these efforts on beliefs, attitudes and donor registration rates.

"Dr. Quick is coming to WIU to share his decades of experience promoting organ donation. Anyone interested in learning how to best convince the public to give the gift of life by becoming an organ donor will be interested in this unique event," WIU Communications Professor Chris Carpenter said.

The Wayne N. Thompson Lecture honors WIU alumnus Wayne Thompson, a nationally recognized professor of speech communication who earned his undergraduate degree at WIU. An endowment in his name helps sponsor many department programs that enhance learning and scholarship in the field of communication, including this lecture and the annual Thompson Lecture, which is presented by a prominent scholar in the field.
