Just Hired: Anna Thomas

Just Hired! Through the experiences of local, regional, national and international students, Western Illinois University has some incredible alumni who are changing the world in the workforce. This series features students from all over the world who are hired post-graduation.

MOLINE, IL—Meet Anna Thomas, a graduate of Western Illinois University's Museum Studies program who recently joined the Museum of Danish America. This institution is dedicated to preserving and sharing the history, culture and heritage of Danish immigrants and their descendants in the United States.

"The process of landing a job in the museum field is rigorous and demanding," Thomas said. "However, nothing is more satisfying than laying out your entire experience portfolio and getting positive feedback because of all the hard work I put into gaining experience in a wide range of areas inside museums. The most impressive aspect of my resume is my board member experience."

Thomas credited her time at WIU for preparing her for this role.

"During my time at WIU, I learned that your faculty aren't just there to teach or mentor you; they're there to be your friends and a shoulder to lean on," Thomas said. "Even as an adult in a master's program, it truly takes a village. I can wholeheartedly say my degree in Museum Studies from WIU is the key to my success. From the emphasis on hands-on training and experiences to infinite opportunities to network with other museum professionals, I owe my success to this program."

Looking ahead, Thomas plans to remain connected with WIU.

"I will stay involved with WIU by being a proud alumna and mentoring current students in my former program," Thomas said.
