Just Hired! Through the experiences of local, regional, national and international students, Western Illinois University has some incredible alumni who are changing the world in the workforce. This series will feature students from all over the world who are hired post-graduation.
MACOMB/MOLINE, IL - - Meet Elizabeth Orwig, a WIU's Special Education program graduate who has accepted a position as a Junior High Special Education teacher at Colona Grade School.
"When I graduated, I knew I wanted to live in the Quad Cities," Orwig said. "I went on the Illinois Education Job Bank and applied to teaching positions near me. I interviewed with Colona and absolutely fell in love with the school and community."
Orwig credits her time at WIU with shaping her career readiness and professional success.
"At WIU, I learned how to set goals and tailor an academic experience to achieve said goals," Orwig said. "The School of Education at WIU has supported me from the time I was a freshman in 2020 to even now, post-graduation. I am so thankful for their care and preparation for my career readiness."
Looking ahead, Orwig plans to stay connected to WIU.
"I hope to come back to WIU for my graduate work," Orwig said. "I also plan on staying in touch with the wonderful people I met at WIU!"
