MACOMB, IL - - As part of National Transfer Student Week, Western Illinois University is proud to share the inspiring transfer journey of Stormy Lopez, who joined the Leatherneck community in the fall of 2022.

Lopez transferred from the College of Lake County in the fall of 2022 and chose WIU to pursue a major in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration (LEJA).

"It was always my top choice. I visited the campus and met the faculty within the department and liked what it had to offer me," Lopez said.

Since transferring to WIU, Stormy has had a transformative experience.

"My experience at WIU has been life-changing," Lopez said. "I've met hundreds of amazing people and have had the opportunity to work within the undergraduate admissions office to share my experiences as a transfer student with incoming students. WIU has prepared me for my desired career path and I couldn't thank my professors enough for all of their time and dedication to get me to where I need to be to be successful in the future."

One aspect of WIU that Lopez finds particularly unique is the hands-on learning experience in her courses.

"I love that I get the in-text information from course material, but that my professors have worked within the field and can demonstrate the hands-on aspects that come with the job," Lopez said.

Reflecting on her journey, Stormy expressed deep gratitude for ending her college career at WIU.

"I didn't start my college journey at Western, but I couldn't be more grateful that I'm ending my college journey here. Leatherneck until the end!"
