MACOMB, IL - - The Western Illinois University Undergraduate Admissions staff surprised admitted seniors from Macomb High School, West Prairie High School and Bushell-Prairie High School with a visit from WIU's live mascot, Colonel Rock IV, aka "Ray," at Ray Day, April 12.

The "Ray Day Surprise Squad" visited the local high schools handing out WIU swag, answering questions, and introducing the incoming freshmen to Ray. The squad was happy to welcome the admitted students into the Leatherneck family, build excitement for the fall, and make a personal connection with the University community.

"We are always excited to welcome new students from the McDonough County area to Western," Doug Freed, director of Undergraduate Admissions said. "Western has a long history of serving students from the local community."

Students will learn with faculty whose primary purpose is to teach. Faculty also do research and undergraduate students have access to professors in support of their research. Scholarships, an Honors College and undergraduate research opportunities make Western a superb option for high-achieving students looking for their new college home.

WIU offers an outstanding variety of in-demand undergraduate and graduate programs, integrated programs, pre-professional programs, and certificate programs. Students receive practical education through internships, hands-on work with faculty and excellent career preparation services.
