WIU to Host Digital Access Conference April 12

MACOMB, IL - -Western Illinois University in collaboration with Reaching Across Illinois Libraries (RAILS) will host a WIU Digital Access Conference from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, April 12 in the Multicultural Center on the Macomb campus as part of the Broadband READY grant from the Illinois Office of Broadband.

The conference will spotlight the importance of broadband in rural communities and how libraries play a crucial role in expanding digital access.

"There have been some fascinating developments concerning the future of broadband and digital equity in Illinois, and we know that libraries will play an important role in helping bridge the digital divide across the state. We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with Western Illinois University to host this event and ensure that our members feel prepared for what's ahead," RAILS Executive Director Monica Harris said.

The schedule will include:
9-9:30 a.m. - Welcome, introductions and recognition of grant recipients
9:30-10 a.m. - Keynote: Why Broadband is Critical to Illinois Libraries
10–10:30 a.m. - WIU Libraries: Outreach & Partnerships
10:30-11 a.m. - Social media literacy and outreach
11 a.m.-noon - Table talks
Noon-1 p.m. - Lunch
1 p.m.- 1:30 p.m. - Chromebook/hotspot lending spotlight
1:30 - 2 p.m. - The future of broadband in Illinois
2 p.m.- 2:30 p.m. - Libraries, economic development and the Importance of broadband to WIU
2:30 - 3 p.m. - Large group discussion, next steps, and thank you
Attendees are encouraged to indicate any dietary restrictions in the registration notes.
