Announcements

• Extra Credit Opportunity: Working with a partner you will make a set of 16 Mental Math flash cards, following guidelines (printed separately). These will untimately be printed on card stock and you will fold, glue, and cut the cards. You will turn in one card set (and keep two sets for yourself and your partner) and the Word document to Dr. Olsen (via e-mail). This is optional. You can earn up to 15 points of extra credit (15 points for you and 15 points for your partner). It is recommended that you turn it in by Friday, December 11. The last day it may be turned in in Wednesday, December 16.
• Optional review session for Exam II: Thursday, 10/29, 3:30-4:30 p.m. in MG 308.

• Optional help sessions: Thursday, 10/15, 8:30-9:25 a.m. and 2:30-3:30 p.m. (We'll start in my office and possibly move to another (bigger) room--the room number will be posted on my door.)
• No office hours on Friday, 10/16. Dr. Olsen will be out of town on at the ICTM Conference. There will be a substitute teacher teaching the classes.
• Retake/extra credit option for Exam I: If you wish to raise your grade on Exam I. (a) understand your mistakes on Exam I (see the tutor or Dr. Olsen, as needed), (b) complete the three practice booklets and get your questions answered (from tutors or Dr. Olsen) (c) turn in your booklets to Dr. Olsen (in his office) and schedule a retake exam. (d) take the retake exam. Your Exam I score will be replaced by the average of your original Exam I score and the retake score. Due Dates: Turn in the three practice booklets by Monday Oct. 19, 4 p.m.; Take the retake exam by Friday Oct. 23, 4 p.m.
• Optional help/review session for Exam I: Friday, Sept. 25, 2:30-3:30 p.m. Room: Morgan 224.

Primes and Composites

Eratosthenes (276-194 B.C.) was the third librarian of the famous library in Alexandria and an outstanding scholar all around. He came up with the "Sieve of Eratosthenes."
