My main Common Core page is here.

Note: Find-in-page is a very important tool - for the browser, PDF reader, Word. Control+f usually works.

Desmos - https://www.desmos.com/ - free online graphing calculator (which runs on an iPad)

PARCC Overview and Update

The "Big 3" Documents (my opinion)

  1. Common Core State Standards for Mathematics - Original
  2. PARCC Model Content Frameworks for Mathematics (PDF) - Grades 3-11. Overview ~ Frameworks browser
  3. Assessment Blueprints and Test Specifications ("evidence tables") - for the PBA (Performance Based Assessment), MYA (Mid-Year Assessment, and EOY (End Of Year)

PARCC Update PowerPoint

Some PARCC terminology: PARCC does have a Glossary.

Sample Items and Tasks

Frosted Cake Investigation A-CED.1, F-BF.1

Congruence via transformations - 8.G.2 and G-CO.6. Learnist Board: Interactive Apps for Geometry Transformations. Geogebra - free dynamic geometry (and algebra) program. Great for transformations.

Transformation Task - Can you find a series of transformations (reflections, translations, and/or rotations) that can take one shape to the other shape? Use the following images. Try it in Geogebra. You can import images into

Number Line Generator - great tool for making custom number lines (for use on worksheets, SmartBoard, web, assessments, etc.). Also, here is a Word doc with a few number lines which can be copied and pasted. 4NumberLines document.

Percent: 24 Percent Tweets (Learnist Boards with SlideShares and Quizlet decks) - 24 useful things to know about percents and how they are used in the real-world. Explanations, examples, and practice. 7.RP.3 and high school algebra (relates strongly to exponential functions).

Finding Good Tasks

See the Links section (under Resources) of my main Common Core Page.

There are many providers of good problems and tasks (listed in the Links section). Three of the main providers are (all of these are searchable, so some degree or another, by standard):

  1. The Mathematics Assessment Project (MAP) developed by the Shell Center/MARS, and others. Task Collection.
  2. Illustrative Mathematics Project - illustrativemathematics.org/
  3. InsideMathematics tasks - Good source to find tasks and lessons. Note: The POM's ('Problems of the Month') have different levels (of difficulty), so many are useful for differentiated instruction. Click here (zip file) for the teacher notes and answers to the POM's. Site also has classroom examples and videos.

CCSSmath.org Resources - This is a great site because you can search by standard and it combines many other resources. Click the grade level or HS conceptual category, then click the standard, and you are take to a list of activities for that standard. Activities come from Dan Meyer, MAP, NCTM, IXL, Texas Instruments, and more. Very nice! Home/front page.

Other

Progressions Documents - New ones have been added.

Learnist Boards

Illinois - Illinois Model Curriculum, Illinois Model Curriculum LiveBinder.

Congruence Using Transformation Videos - Demonstrating G-CO.6 (also 8.G.2) (with Geogebra)

Video - My fellow fractions!! Passionate activist rises up and demands equity for all numbers, including fractions and decimals. (number line ;-) See also number rights, which has a learner and teacher guide.
