Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) Surveys

"IPEDS is the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System. It is a system of interrelated surveys conducted annually by the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). IPEDS gathers information from every college, university, and technical and vocational institution that participates in the federal student financial aid programs. The Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, requires that institutions that participate in federal student aid programs report data on enrollments, program completions, graduation rates, faculty and staff, finances, institutional prices, and student financial aid. These data are made available to students and parents through the College Navigator college search website and to researchers and others through the IPEDS Data Center." The following categories represent collections of the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) surveys. Information is posted here when final release data becomes available. Year represents reporting year.

Academic Libraries

Academic Libraries includes information on library collections, expenses, and services.

Admissions

Admissions includes basic information about the undergraduate selection process for first-time degree seeking students, including admissions information and ACT test scores.

Completions

Completions is prior academic year's collection of data on recognized degree completions by level and other formal awards by length of program.

Enrollment

Enrollment includes the number of full and part-time students enrolled in the fall by level, race/ethnicity and gender of student.

12 Month Enrollment

12 Month Enrollment is enrollment data for the entire 12 month year.

Finance

Finance includes revenues by source, expenses by function, physical plant assets and indebtedness, and endowment investments.

Financial Aid

Financial Aid is the number of full-time, first-time degree-seeking undergraduate students receiving financial aid, the number of students receiving each type of financial assistance, and the average amount received by type.

Graduation Rate

Graduation Rate tracks the cohort of first-time, full-time degree-seeking undergraduate students for 150% (6 years) of the normal time of their program to see how many complete.

Graduation Rate 200

Graduation Rate 200 tracks for 200% (8 years) of normal time to completion.

Human Resources

Human Resources includes a variety of surveys of the employees and their assigned positions, salaries, benefits, etc.

Institutional Characteristics

Institutional Characteristics includes admissions criteria, athletic association, award levels, selected student services, calendar system, tuition, fees, and room and board charges.

Outcomes Measures

Outcomes Measures includes information on outcomes of degree-seeking undergraduates who are not only first-time, full-time, but also part-time and non first-time (transfer-in) students. Student status is reported over an eight year period.
