Fall Enrollment

Enrollments reported in Integrated Postsecondary Data System (IPEDS) Fall enrollment survey as of 10th day fall semester and includes both Macomb and Quad Cities campuses as well as Extension enrollment.

Degrees

Degrees reported in the IPEDS Degree survey by fiscal year and CIP category. For example, the FY2003 column represents total degrees conferred in summer 2002, fall 2002 and spring 2003.

Discipline Cost Per Credit Hour

The annual costs from appropriated funding associated with: direct instruction, indirect instruction, departmental research, and departmental and college overheads divided by annual credit hours in this CIP program. Source data for these costs are from the university’s Faculty Activity Analysis and the university cost study.

Credit Hours Per Staff Year

The annual number of credits taught per faculty staff year for faculty instructing in this discipline. Faculty here includes tenured/tenure track faculty, non-tenure track faculty, administrative professionals and graduate assistants. Instructional fiscal years encompass summer, fall and spring credit hours.

Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) Code

This is the organizational taxonomy for collecting and reporting university data used in all National Center for Educational Statistics (NCES) surveys. Degree programs are assigned six digit CIPS, based on the degree discipline.

All Western Illinois University degree programs are assigned a CIP category by the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE).

Staff Year Calculation

Number of months employed times the percent appointment, divided by 12. Example: One nine month, 100% faculty=.75 staff year (9 X 1.00/12 = .75 staff year)

Headcount Enrollment

Western Illinois University headcount enrollment includes student credit hour activity from on campus and extension (online/distance education) courses. Headcount enrollment is calculated at 10th day of each fall and spring semester and at the end of the summer semester. Each student’s enrollment category is determined by the location of the majority of credit hours in which the student is enrolled. There are students who take both on campus and extension courses in any given term, but the headcount is not duplicated, it is based on majority of credit hours for the term.

Full Time Equivalence (FTE) Enrollment

FTE is a measurement of enrollment calculated by using student credit hour activity. For fall and spring semesters, one full-time equivalent (FTE) student equals 15 student credit hours for undergraduates and 12 for graduates. For summer semester, one FTE student equals 8 student credit hours for undergraduates and 6 for graduates.

Student Credit Hour Production

The Student Credit Hour Production Report is calculated using three campus categories: Macomb, Quad Cities and Extension. Student credit hours earned in Macomb campus courses are counted in Macomb campus hours, student credit hours earned in Quad Cities campus courses are counted in Quad Cities campus hours and student credit hours earned in Extension courses are counted as Extension credit hours. Macomb campus courses, Quad Cities campus courses and Extension courses are identified by section number.
