3. What is Parent and Guest access to STARS?
Students may allow parents and other guests to view their records by creating a STARS account for each individual (up to a maximum of 5 accounts). To create and manage accounts, the student must Launch STARS, login, and select Parent and Guest Account Management from the menu. The student is responsible for managing the account and for communicating account information, including the Guest WIU ID Number and Password, to each guest. The guest must use Parent & Guest STARS to log in and access their student's records.

Important note to Students/Alumni/Employees: If you are unable to answer your personal identification question correctly, you must request assistance by contacting the appropriate office listed above. After your account has been unlocked or reset, you should login to STARS and review or change your questions and answers from the Security Questions page.
5. What should I do if I am not able to launch STARS?
You may want to check to see if your computer has any pop-up blockers installed. Some pop-up blockers will prevent STARS from launching. If you do have pop-up blockers installed, you need to either disable them or modify them to allow pop-ups from mvs.wiu.edu. We have compiled the instructions for several pop-up blockers on our Allowing Pop-ups for STARS page.
Occasionally system maintenance is required. View the System Shutdown Schedule for dates and times.
6. What should I do if I am not able to sign on to STARS (even with valid credentials)?
Some internet service providers do not provide a constant IP address, which is required by the STARS system. Using the WIU Virtual Private Network (VPN) to sign on to STARS will provide you with a constant IP address and avoid this problem. Click the following link to log in to the Clientless VPN. Log in to the WIU VPN. After logging in to the VPN (using your ECOM username and password), click on the STARS link under Web Bookmarks (circled in red below).
Click the following link to view more information about the WIU VPN. About the WIU VPN.
7. What should I do if I am having trouble entering my password or setting a new password?
Your password must not begin with a space. Some browsers clear form fields but leave a space in the field. If you are having problems entering your password or setting a new password, make sure to remove all leading space when entering your password.
8. Why do Back and Forward not work?
Security is the main reason that STARS launches in a separate window without the normal navigation buttons. It is very important to us to make sure that the information you view while logged into STARS is accurate at all times. When a back button is used, you may view a page that has since been changed by you or, for some information, some other department on campus. For this reason, we have tried to make the only avenue for retrieving the information on the page an action you initiate by pressing one of the buttons we have provided. This ensures that you see the most current data while using STARS.
9. Why is the information not formatted when I print the page?
If you are using the browser print function (Ctrl + P), rather than a provided print link, formatting will not be present. Primarily, using the browser print function is discouraged.
If you click a provided "Print Screen" link, this will still be a browser print, but efforts have been made to format the information in the best way (recognizing that not all browsers handle formatting in the same manner).
We have tried to anticipate the most common needs for printing and provided a "Print PDF" link on those pages (at the appropriate times). Considerable efforts have been made to present the information in an easily printable and downloadable fashion. For the Print PDF process, you will want to click the "Return to STARS ______" link provided, to return to the page you were printing from. Closing the STARS PDF Viewer page will end your STARS session.
