Film Club
The Film Club watches Independent, Foreign, Documentary and Hollywood films. After each film, we discuss it as a group. All WIU students are welcome at our meetings. Event Highlights
The Film Club has sponsored and co-sponosored multiple events including University film screenings featuring the film's writer/director/producer, film festivals at the local theater, an activities fair, and a film trivia event.
Film Minor Screens Short Film "Evanescent"
Film Minor Thaddeus Fifer Screens His Short Film "Evanescent" starring English Grad Student Dakota Carlson. This film was a final project of ENG 409, an independent study that film minors can take with Roberta Di Carmine. Read the news release for additional information.
Students Create Video to Promote Film Minor
Some incredible film students created a short video about the Film Minor. The film was used to promote the 2017 Purple and Gold Day. Learn more about the Film Minor.
Presentation of "The Bootlegger"
Filmmaker Ryan Walker (former WIU student) presented his nonfiction film "The Bootlegger" alongside his wife, Kate Walker, who is producer and assistant director of the film. "The Bootlegger" is a nonfiction film on Kelly Wagle, famous gangster-folk hero of Colchester, Illinois, and based on the book by John E. Hallwas. Michael Caplan's acclaimed documentary, "Algren, The Movie"
Through the film, Caplan profiles Nelson Algren, a successful Chicago writer who has been admired by many well-known novelists, including Ernest Hemingway, Richard Wright, Kurt Vonnegut and Salmon Rushdie. Read the news release for additional information .
