Spring 2015 Course Offering ~ WIU Quad Cities Campus ~ Math 502

Algebraic Mathematical Modeling for Middle School Teachers

Course Description

This is an algebraic modeling course for teachers. This course is suitable for teachers who (a) seek better understanding for teaching the Operations and Algebraic Thinking, Expressions and Equations, and Functions Standards (from CCSSM*), (b) are seeking a middle school mathematics endorsement, (c) have never taught algebra before, or (d) have taught algebra and are seeking more understanding of algebraic modeling of real-world problems.

In this course we look at mathematical models of real-world problems using algebraic, graphical, and numerical representations. We use algebra and technology to model, analyze, and solve real-world problems.

*CCSSM = Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (my page of resources)
