withonevoice - WIU Residency & Performance - "Our Beating Hearts" - Dr. Brian J. Winnie, Founder & Artistic Director
Time: 7:30 PM
Location: COFAC Recital Hall
Description:
We invite you to the inaugural season performances of our new non-profit, professional vocal ensemble, withonevoice. This sixteen-member ensemble, founded in 2019 by Artistic Director and WIU Director of Choral Studies, Dr. Brian J. Winnie, was born out of the idea that choral music can represent a broader diversity of music, styles, and people. Vocal versatility and collaborative exploration are at the core of our ensemble's mission with each concert featuring diverse voice qualities and repertoire that expand choral possibilities and pedagogy. We also believe in bringing educational and performance experiences to diverse populations including rural and urban audiences. The summer festival season begins with a residency on July 17-19 and culminates in two concerts, one in COFAC Recital Hall on WIU Main campus on July 20 at 7:30 PM and one in downtown Chicago in the beautiful Buchanan Chapel at Fourth Presbyterian Church on July 21 at 7:30 PM.

"Our Beating Hearts" celebrates the interconnectedness of us all through a variety of texts and musical genres. The program begins with three pieces that describe the vastness of Earth and the possibilities for a utopian existence for us all. This is followed by music that depicts the stories of love, loss, and renewal through texts of our connection to nature and loved ones. There is so much to experience in this life journey, and this ensemble of artists is an exemplary representation of what we can accomplish when we connect with one another.

The ensemble is proud to feature WIU faculty, staff, and students in this inaugural summer season.
