- Description: The Western Illinois University Office of Employee Initiatives and Campus Culture (EICC) will commemorate the 10th annual National Day of Racial Healing (NDORH) from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, following Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Aligned with the national observance, this day aims to foster a collective commitment to racial equity, justice and understanding through a series of impactful events and discussions open to the WIU and Macomb communities.
Members of the WIU Community are invited to visit an information table outside of the EICC office at Sherman Hall Room 103 to learn what a single person can do to increase a sense of welcome and support and expand a sense of community and belonging both on campus and beyond.
"The National Day of Racial Healing is open to all members of the WIU and Macomb communities," EICC Director Carl Ervin said. "The day offers the chance to pick up insights and skills that enhance respect, understanding and the ability to work collaboratively. All are invited and encouraged to expand their learning and to be part of a nationwide commitment!"
Racial healing is recognized as a vital component of achieving racial equity, involving collaborative efforts to transform communities, organizations and systems. The NDORH provides an opportunity for individuals, communities and organizations to come together, acknowledge shared values, build trust, develop authentic relationships and inspire collective action to address the effects of racism.
