Library Home

For more than 95 years, the University Library has supported WIU's educational mission by collecting, preserving, and providing access to the world's knowledge. This year, we commemorate the 20th anniversary of the library's move to its present architectural showplace.

Sherman Hall (1902-1962)
For the first 60 years of WIU, Sherman Hall served as the University Library's home.

Memorial Hall (1962-1978)
As the collection grew, the library moved to the larger confines of Memorial Hall.

In 1978, the library moved to its present location with six levels enclosing approximately 200,000 square feet and seating 2,000 people. In addition to a "state of the art" computer classroom, numerous computer workstations are located throughout the facility providing access to such resources as: the ILLINET Online library catalog, a variety of CD-ROM resources, numerous online bibliographic databases, and the World Wide Web.

Today, the University Library continues to creatively serve WIU in the "Information Age" through quality instruction, collection development, material preservation, the creation of innovative online resources, and providing access to the foremost bibliographic databases in the world.
