Library Listening Parties: Song Autopsies and Nick Cave

University Libraries continue to offer lunchtime opportunities for musical enjoyment and discussion with two Listening Parties scheduled for the month of April:

Song Autopsy – Wednesday, April 20th, 12 – 1 PM, Sallee Hall Music Library

What's hiding in your favorite song? Justin Georges of University Libraries and Mark Twitchell of University Television - both members of local band Chew Toy - will break down recordings track by track to reveal subtle musical details. Attendees will learn how choices made in the recording and mixing stages contribute to the overall feel of a song, and how listening to songs track by track can enhance the listening experience.

Nick Cave’s Literary Influences – Wednesday, April 27th, 12 – 1 PM, Malpass 180

Nick Cave, a musician whose career spans three and a half decades and at least 4 different bands, has a body of lyrical and musical work that is ripe for analysis. Cave lyrics are often noted for their wide-ranging literary references and narrative content; his musical influences are a similar mishmash. Amateur Cave scholar and rabid fan Christina Norton of University Libraries will give an introduction to Cave's literary and musical influences, and themes within his work.

Both events are free and open to the public. For more information, contact Outreach Librarian Christina Norton at ca-norton@wiu.edu or 309-298-3298.
