Weaving Historical Strands

Come, see, and learn about the earliest evidence of weaving and the making of international textiles. Students from around the world will be on hand to model their traditional costumes.

Dr. Phyllis Self, Dean of Libraries; Carmen Keist, Assistant Professor, DFMH; and Patricia Anderson, Associate Professor, Sociology and Anthropology will discuss topics related to international textiles such as fibers and dyes, spinning/weaving/knitting tools, earliest evidence for weaving, and cross-cultural patterns regarding gender.

There will be opportunities to play with the various fibers and participate in a dyeing exercise.
