2009 Minority Health Month
In honor of National Minority Health Month, the Leslie F. Malpass Library is cosponsoring two viewings of episodes of the critically-acclaimed documentary series Unnatural Causes on Tuesday, April 28, and Wednesday, April 29, 2009 in Malpass 180. The series explores the interaction between poverty, social class, race, and politics in the health of Americans.

The episodes shown in the Malpass Library will be:
- Unnatural Causes, part 6: Collateral Damages (April 28, 5:00 pm)
- The lives and health of Marshall Islanders in the equatorial Pacific were disrupted in a unique fashion when the United States used their outer islands for extensive nuclear testing after World War II. Seeking a better future, many Marshallese have ended up in the unlikely place of Springdale, Arkansas. The health problems that Marshallese people experience today as they adjust to life outside of the Pacific are explored in this episode.
- Unnatural Causes, part 7: Not Just a Paycheck (April 29, 5:00 pm)
- In the winter of 2006, the Electrolux Corporation closed the largest refrigerator factory in the U.S. and moved it to Juarez, Mexico for cheaper labor. The move turned the lives of nearly 3,000 workers in Greenville, Michigan upside down. As personal finances spiral downward, health follows. The effects of unemployment on health are examined.
