CARDalogue Art Exhibit

Where did the card catalogue go?

In this day and age of technology, Western Illinois University art professor Susan Czechowski's Art 101 students are giving the traditional card catalogue system a rebirth. The Intro to Design students created visual images celebrating the "old" card catalogue system for an exhibit that is currently on display in Westerns Leslie F. Malpass Library.

"The CARDalogue project stemmed from the ever-present use of technology and the extinction of the card catalogue. These cards used a few short years ago in the WIU Library now sit boxed in a basement," Czechowski explained. "The only parameters given to the students were the elements of design learned during the Fall 2006 semester -- line, shape, color, texture and size -- and correspond their ideas to the information on the cards."

The following students artwork will be on display: Emily Grothus, a junior art major from Davenport, IA; Steven Sommers, a freshman graphic communication major from Quincy (IL); Tyler Casson, a senior art major from Williamsville (IL); Maria Montalvo, a senior art major from Macomb; Mary Brooks, a freshman art major from Cuba (IL); Jenni Chambers, a freshman general orientation major from Macomb; Leann Shryack, a freshman graphic communication major from Macomb; Princess Alexander, a sophomore human resource management major from Olympia Fields (IL); Derek Lauritzen, a sophomore graphic communication major from Sterling (IL); Allison Hunt, a junior biological sciences major from Lake Zurich (IL); Yoshinori Izumi, a junior graphic communication major from Japan; and Skan Jolly, a sophomore construction management major from Quincy (IL).
