Douglas Phillips

Douglas Phillips - 2005 to 2009

Prior to his appointment at Western Illinois University, Phillips served as Associate Director of Bands at The University of Virginia in Charlottesville (2004-2005), and taught public school in the state of Florida where he was Director of Bands at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts in Jacksonville (2003-2004), and Director of Instrumental Music at Merritt Island High School in Merritt Island (2001-2003).

Phillips received the Bachelor of Music Education degree (Cum Laude) from Stetson University (1999) and the Master of Music in Instrumental Conducting degree from Western Michigan University (2001). While a member of the graduate program at Western Michigan University, Phillips was awarded the Graduate Award for Outstanding Teaching in the School of Music (2001), and was a recipient of the All-University Award for Graduate Student Teaching Effectiveness (2001).

Since 2001, Mr. Phillips has been a member of the faculty for the Stetson University Double Reed Workshop, an intense week-long summer clinic where he is an instructor and conductor of one of the workshop's Double-Reed Ensembles. Phillips is also active as a guest conductor, clinician, and performer, and was a founding member of, and a tuba player in, the semi-professional wind ensemble - The Southern Winds. He holds active memberships in the Music Educator's National Conference, the Illinois Music Educator's Association, the Florida Bandmaster's Association, the College Band Director's National Association, the National Band Association, the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, The Conductor's Guild, the College Music Society, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

Douglas L. Phillips is Director of Bands and Assistant Professor of Music (conducting) in the School of Music at Stetson University.
