Requirements

  Minimum high school or college GPA of 3.0 - SAT/ACT scores not required but please submit if able.

  Essay on value of rural and small schools

  Endorsement from a rural or small town school superintendent who agrees to interview the applicant

  Commit to teach in a rural or small town community for at least three years after receiving teaching license/certificate

  Current WIU Sophomores and Juniors must meet individual Teacher Education Program GPA requirements (transcript must be submitted at time of application)

As a Corps member

You commit to:

  Attend at least three selected seminars each year on rural and small town education issues

  Complete a civic engagement activity with students at a rural school in your senior year

  Graduate and become certified/licensed to teach

  Complete student teaching in a rural or small town

  Attend the Great River Teacher Corps gatherings held each spring

  Teach for three years in a rural community within 22 specified counties: Adams, Brown, Calhoun, Cass, Fulton, Greene, Hancock, Henderson, Henry, Knox, Mason, McDonough, Mercer, Morgan, Peoria, Pike, Rock Island, Schuyler, Scott, Stark, Tazewell, Warren
