Sarah Nava Garvey, Fall 2008
Sarah Nava Garvey recently retired as the vice president for Corporate Relations of The Boeing Company. In this capacity, she served as the company liaison with government, civic, and community groups and leaders as well as the international political and business community in the Midwest region. Ms. Garvey interfaced with Boeing business units to ensure appropriate representation of the company with diplomatic representatives of countries where Boeing does business.
Prior to joining the Corporate Relations team, Ms. Garvey served as Director of Taxes for Boeing where she was responsible for the company’s U.S. tax position. Ms. Garvey also oversaw planning and compliance activities for federal and state income tax and non-income taxes for the company. Additionally, she managed the company’s Internal Revenue Service audits, the financial accounting aspects of income tax, and legislative activities for taxes.
Prior to joining Boeing, Ms. Garvey held several leadership positions in the tax and merger-and-acquisition areas. She was a partner with the accounting firm of Deloitte & Touche, where she led several functional groups.
Ms. Garvey has a strong commitment to the community and has served on the boards of many business, civic, and charitable organizations in the Chicago area. She currently serves on the boards of the Renaissance Society, Scholarship Chicago, Chicago Sister Cities International, U.S. Mexico Chamber of Commerce, and the Shedd Aquarium. She also serves on the women’s boards of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Brookfield Zoo.
