Abstract Search

USDE ERIC

This search looks for articles in which the term "dyslexia" appears in any abstract published in the year 2000. It's a wider (and slightly "muddier") search than using "dyslexia" as a descriptor. On the other hand, while some of the articles may not be centrally about dyslexia, you may turn up information about dyslexia in this kind of search that would not appear in a tighter, more focused descriptor search.

This search retrieves dissertations (041) or Masters Theses (042) in which the term "assessment" appears in the abstract and which were published in Illinois.  Note the use of "Or" in Term 2.

The search below locates articles in which the term "dyslexia" appears in the abstract and in which the geographical United States plays a part. Geographical places are included in Identifiers.

OVID

The Ovid version of ERIC requires that you click on Select Fields at the main search menu, then select "Abstract" as below.

Complex searches in Ovid require the use of the Combine Searches function.

It is a bit trickier performing the "assessment" / "theses/dissertation" / Illinois search in Ovid. You get fewer results. This could be because the USDE and First Search interfaces might combine the institutional address and identifier fields and, so, pull geographic information from two fields, rather than only one.
