1) Go To Google Book Advanced Search http://books.google.com/advanced_book_search

2) Set up the search as below

 

3) You should get results that look like this

 

You can refine your results by adding a narrowing term (like "carnival") and by adding a phrase (seebelow)

 

 

You can also search by specific type of "freak." Here is one for "bearded lady." Here is one "hermaphrodite" and "human."
