Along with Prof. Mike Leenders, I developed the “Ivey Purchasing Managers Index” that is jointly sponsored by Purchasing Management Association of Canada (PMAC) and Richard Ivey School of Business. The index is based on a survey of 175 carefully selected public and private sector participants from different geographical areas across Canada representing all sectors of activities to match the Canadian economy as a whole. It is a monthly measure of purchasing managers spending activities and predicts economic trends based on supply side information. It provides information across five categories, namely, purchases, employment, inventories, supplier deliveries and prices based on the information collected from the Index panel members, and is similar to the National Association of Purchasing Managers (NAPM) Index in the United States. It is released on the first business day of the month and gives the first reading of economic activity for the previous month.
