Assignments: Suggested weekly homework assignments will be given during the classroom lectures, and these will also be posted on the course web page at http://www.wiu.edu/users/mfmsb/wiu/125.html. The assigned homework problems will be discussed in the Tuesday homework recitation periods following each chapter, and you will derive the greatest benefit from these discussion sections

only if you attempt to solve the homework problems prior to that class period. This is your best method of checking your understanding of the chapter, and these should all be kept for later test review, along with your quizzes and exams. All quizzes and examinations will consist mainly of problem(s) to be worked since this is an analytical, problem-solving oriented course.

Laboratory: Required -- Check your schedule to make sure that you are registered in one of the following Physics 125 laboratory sections:

Section 21 Thursday 10 - 11:50 am CH302 Staff

Section 22 Thursday 1 - 2:50 pm CH302 Staff

---> You must pass the laboratory (50%) as a requirement for passing the course.

---> You must bring your Physics 125 laboratory manual and a scientific

calculator and graph paper to each laboratory session.

---> Written laboratory reports are to be handed in at the beginning of your next regular laboratory period, giving you one week to complete them.

---> Late reports will be penalized 2 pts. per class day late (out of possible 20 pts.).

---> Excused absences only by prior arrangement; they must be made up the following week during one of the regularly scheduled lab periods above.

Grading: Three Hour Exams, each worth 150 pts. 450

One Two-Hour Final Exam, worth 200 pts. 200

Quizzes (11 of these x 15 pts.--lowest one dropped) 150

Laboratory Reports, Each Worth 20 x 10 = 200

(Total Point System for Grading) 1000 pts. total

Scale: A = 88 — 100% ; B = 75 — 87% ; C = 62 — 74% ; D = 50 — 61% ; F = 0 — 49%

Quizzes will occasionally be given throughout the semester for in-class or for take-home completion, and these will usually follow homework discussion on Wednesdays.

Hour Exams will be given in class (10 A.M.) on February 11th, March 8th, and April 10th.

There will be no make-up exams given for these three exams or for the final exam.

Final Exam (comprehensive) will be on Mon., May 6th, from 10 - 11:50 am in CH205.

Disabled students are welcomed and encouraged to let me know as soon as possible of any special accommodations needed during lectures/laboratories/examinations, etc.

Syllabus is subject to change with notice--notice will be given in class at least twice!!
