W.I.U. Mini-Conference on Secondary Mathematics Teaching

Mini-Conference on Secondary Math Teaching

This mini-conference is generally held in Macomb on even years and in the Quad Cities in odd years.

Mini-Conference for 2018 will not be held

Due to a combination of various factors, the W.I.U. Mini-Conference on Secondary Mathematics Teaching will not be held in 2018.

========generally, our format has been as follows:

The Mathematics and Philosophy Department at Western Illinois University is holding a Mini-Conference on Secondary Mathematics Teaching Thursday, November XX, from 5-8 p.m. in Macomb, IL on the W.I.U.-Macomb campus.  This mini-conference is intended for grade 7-12 mathematics teachers.  The cost for the conference will be $10 per person, and a light meal will be included.

This is intended to be an enjoyable evening of sharing and connecting with other professionals, without the challenges of missing school, substitutes, and long distance travel.

Cost is $10. A light meal will be provided.

Location/Rooms at the WIU-Macomb Campus

Check-in will be 4:30-5:00 p.m. in Morgan Hall 209 (Math Resource Office)

Parking: Parking regulations are generally not enforced after 4:30 p.m. so you may park in most of the WIU lots. Here is a map.

The sessions themselves, beginning at 5 p.m. The Mini-Conference will conclude at 8 p.m.

We are looking for speakers for next year

We have our speakers for this year, but we are always looking for speakers for next year. On the even years the Mini-Conference is held in Macomb. In odd years, it is in the Quad Cities. We are looking for speakers to speak on topics of interest to grade 7-12 teachers. If you would like to speak, or know of a speaker, contact Jim Olsen (JR-Olsen@wiu.edu) or Bob Mann (RR-Mann@wiu.edu).

This event is organized by Jim Olsen and Bob Mann.
This event is partially funded by the WCCTM [West Central Council of Teaachers of Mathematics]. In years 1 and 2, this event was partially funded by a Title II Teacher Quality-Leadership/Race To The Top Grant, received from the ISBE by Drs. Olsen and Mann of the WIU Math Department. The miniconference began in November of 2014.
Our plan for the future is to hold it in Macomb on the even years and in the Quad Cities in the odd years.
This event does not replace our full conference, which is held each spring. Plan to attend the Annual Western Illinois University Mathematics Teachers Conference.
