Letters of transmittal

ENG 483, Spring 2008

A letter of transmittal is a specialized cover letter which accompanies a major milestone in a project, quite often the final draft. A letter of transmittal should provide the following:

  1. Context and update of the status of the project.
  2. Descriptions of the documents enclosed, if any.
  3. The next step for the client and/or the project manager.
  4. Emphasis of the relevant timeframe.
  5. Contact information.

I have not yet written a sample which addresses editing specifically. For now, here are some web sites which provide good general information and/or examples:
