Annotated bibliography
ENG 180, Section 46, Spring 2008
The research essay draft Tuesday 04/08
requires an annotated bibliography. This form provides information
about your sources which you can share with others, or use as a
research log.
We covered one method in class
Tuesday 03/30. Each item should note, at the least:
- full MLA citation
- how you found it, including search provider, database, and keyword if applicable
- how you might use it (recall the five reasons for research Thursday)
- a brief summary
For example, for the Rybarski piece about Simpkins:
- Rybarski, Eddie. “Simpkins in Dire Need of Renovation.” Western Courier 21 March 2008. 5+.
- Found when I read the Courier
- used to provide raw information and evaluation of Simpkins condition---lots of good quotes
- Rybarski, a Journalism senior, argues that Simpkins Hall needs a major upgrade. Playing off the “it’s haunted” myth, he lists problems with Simpkins, from lack of functionality to general creepiness. He uses sources from the English web site and personal observation. Rybarski concludes with a call for the E&J faculty to complain more about the condition of Simpkins.
NFGW chapter 11 includes numerous examples and further suggestions.
I welcome your questions.
