Welcome

How do computers affect writing and communication? How are they shaping our understanding of the world, from work to play? In this course, we investigate the vital role computers play in American culture, and use them for multiple kinds of writing. Our framework will be about ten concepts which I believe are critical for understanding computers and writing. Our assignments will be a mix of artistic, creative, and practical work, including a service learning project.

This WID course is being taught simultaneously in both Macomb and the Quad Cities; we’ll participate in a group weblog, and we’ll have other opportunities to work together as well.

ENG 280 is a pre-requisite for ENG 480.

9/27: Please read this post about class performance.

I have filled in our schedule up to 10/19/2007. Also, I added a link to my idiot sheet, which provides more detail on the things I plan for class each week.

9/16: I have near complete drafts of the service learning and complimentary projects posted. Please read them (as well as the other material noted in the schedule and del.icio.us).

9/11: Please read this post about the week's readings and activities.

8/20: I’ve roughed in the course content. Because I want our class to be highly collaborative, I am going to ask your help filling in the details. We’ll iron out the details in the first two weeks of the semester, and I’ll update this site accordingly. At midterm, we’ll repeat this work to shape the second half of the semester.
