Project One Optional Rewrite

Some students earned low grades on Project One. Because I hope all students will earn A or B grades in the class, I am offering everyone the opportunity to rewrite the project. Many of the low grades resulted from omission of parts of the assignment—e. g. answering only part of a multi-part question, or not supplying citations and support when it was requested. These problems can be remedied with a feasible amount of additional effort.

There were also some problems with understanding. I believe these can be cleared up with discussion and re-reading.

There are several conditions:

  • If you wish to rewrite the project, you must come see me in office hours (or by appointment) to obtain my permission. If I agree that rewriting is a good idea for you, we will develop a plan for revision at that time. (I don’t want anyone to fall behind on McLuhan and Manovich by focusing on Ong.)
  • In most cases, rewrite does not mean “extend and revise” or “add some stuff here and there.” If you choose to rewrite, you most likely will tear up most of what you have already turned in and start a new project from scratch.
  • Completing a rewrite does not guarantee that you will get a higher grade. (Hence my urging you to communicate with me about the rewrite.)
  • The rewrite is due December 5 at 4:00 pm. This is a hard deadline. No late rewrites will be accepted.

If you wish to rewrite the project: contact me as soon as possible. Meet with me to discuss a strategy for revision. Consider turning in a draft of your rewrite November 17. And make sure to plan your efforts so the work is done by the deadline.

I welcome all questions.
