Group work is assigned in this course for a variety of reasons. Groups allow you to use your specialized knowledge to help the class as a whole (appropriate since this is a WID course). They allow me to give more targeted help to communication problems which you may be having, since I'll be able to speak to a few folks at a time, rather than class at large. Finally, group work enables you to get to know other folks in the course quickly, and allows you to complete large assignments without being overwhelmed.
At the end of the semester, as part of your course portfolio, you'll be asked to evaluate your contribution to group work. I expect you to be able to demonstrate the ways you helped your peers complete group assignments. Therefore, as you work in groups, you should keep records of your contributions.
For each group assignment, one group member needs to write me a memo which summarizes the achievements of the group. This duty should rotate among group members. This memo need not be lengthy or exceedingly formal, but it should provide a brief synopsis of the activities engaged. This will help me assess the effectiveness of assignments as well as individuals within our groups.
As the semester moves forward, completed group assignments and other documents will be posted here.
