Synthetic aperture radar image of a wake, to illustrate group velocity of Rayleigh waves on water, for which vg = 0.5 vp

Notice how the long wavelength waves are getting ahead of the packet.  Also try to determine how the group velocity vs. phase velocity means that the crests are appearing at the back of the packet and moving forward in the packet toward the front.
